Elevate Leadership Program

Why?
When it comes to building a thriving working culture, businesses rely on their managers. There’s a saying that, “people don’t leave jobs, they leave managers”. The goal with this program was to ensure all people leaders in the business were aligned on what it meant to manage people at Oyster.
What?
Elevate was a blended learning program I developed at Oyster with the goal of developing the leadership ability of people managers in the business. Through a mix of online courses, guided discussion groups, and challenges we would support people managers at Oyster in developing key skills needed to lead teams.
How?
In collaboration with senior leadership at Oyster, I led the end-to-end development of this program including design, delivery, and evaluation. We identified eight key skills managers should exhibit to support their teams, and each week we covered that new skill. By the end of the program 75% of managers increased their capabilities across all eight skills.
To develop the program structure, I used tools like Miro to collaborate with stakeholders to map out what an engaging program would look like. The key was to understand what areas managers needed the most support with, and how a program like this could fit in with their schedule. After understanding this, Elevate became an eight week program that included a mix of mediums and content that addressed different topics each week.
Each cohort brought together 12-16 managers from different departments and experience in leading teams. These managers would be guided through content each week that covered a different aspect of being an Oyster manager. In this video, you can see a video I produced to kick-off the first week of Elevate.
Over the next eight weeks, people leaders in the business would cover various topics on managing teams from psychological safety, coaching, and embracing communication styles. They would work with other managers by completing challenges, self-paced modules, and participating in guided discussion groups.
At the end of the program, we evaluated managers on the core competencies we assessed them on at the beginning of Elevate. This was to ensure our program had an impact for them and the business. By the end of the program 75% of participating managers increased their abilities according to key competencies.
When it came to developing content, I designed and developed multimedia learning using Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator, and Articulate.
The goal was to create and curate content that was easy to access, digest, and review while also feeling aligned with the Oyster brand.
