Why?

While working at G Adventures, one of the programs I am most proud of was a learning program entitled, “G-Nomics”. This program was designed to teach G Adventures staff on how the Finance department in the company works. This program, broken into seven episodes, focused on providing short gamified interactive modules that covered different financial topics.

What?

This project was born out of a simple question, “how do we take what the finance team does, how our company uses the money it earns, and make it interesting?” Born out of this question was the G-Nomics learning program. This program was designed to be an interactive game that in each episode, users would be taken to a new area in the game to learn about a new financial topic. Between animations, games, quizzes, and infographics, we covered all aspects of what happens to revenue at G Adventures.

How?

To develop this program, I worked in a team of two and along with two subject matter experts. We first worked with the SMEs to develop the written content, and then iterated on the designs of each episode incorporating their feedback. To design each episode I used a combination of Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Articulate Storyline.

To design each episode we worked with Subject Matter Experts form our Finance team to establish the main topics to be covered during this program. The goal was to keep each section short, taking a Microlearning approach, where each module was no longer than 5 to 10 minutes. This was done to keep people engaged, and to ensure the main points of each financial topic were highlighted.

Using a mix of Adobe Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Articulate Storyline, the design of this program was to be highly interactive, engaging, yet informative.

For example, the “game map” from where learners would navigate to the different topics of “G-Landia” was a version of the G Adventures logo, shaped into an island.

To illustrate the interactivity of this module, play the video below, to see one activity where the learner had to break the piggy bank by using the hammer on the screen. This interactivity was designed in Illustrator and then brought to life using Articulate Storyline.
